It all started in 2005 when a cyclist in La Marina placed an advert in a local free newspaper inviting “road cyclists” to meet in Guadamar for steady “club run” rides on Sundays. On many occasions only 2 or 3 riders would turn up, on a good day, 7 or 8 riders would be present; we kept going.
By 2007 we had a nucleus of half a dozen riders and decided to add Wednesdays to the rides, (meeting that day at Quesada).
The summer of 2008 we agreed that a move to Benijofar for the meeting point would be beneficial for most riders. We also decided that the rides should be Sunday/Wednesday and Friday,
this would complement with a faster group, also meeting at Benijofar, on Saturdays/Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This gave people options of differing types of rides.
With the group expanding as more people were moving to the area and joining whilst on holiday, the idea of having a name and kit was agreed upon. Thus Amigos del Ciclismo took up the lycra challenge and hit the streets.
Our next move was to go “on-line” thus giving access to more people.
The biggest challenge since 2010 has been sourcing routes and cafes/bars to accommodate the ever expanding group and the differing abilities and ages of the riders.
In late 2012 we decided that a committee was needed in order to move forward, this was achieved early in 2013.

From its humble beginnings we now have two main sponsors for our kit, Moneycorp and Spanish Life Properties, and we regularly field 3 groups of riders.
