Hi I'm Julie Ann and started road cycling 6 months after my 50th birthday. I had always said I would never get a road bike as I didn't like anything about it - the position on the bike, the speed on the road etc. But after 3 years of cycling on a hybrid since moving to Spain, I found that my fitness had peaked and I was ready for a new challenge - welcome the road bike! My first bike, a green Wilier, was an absolute delight to ride.
I decided to take on a big challenge and joined the Quesada Cycling Group who had forged to train for the Mallorca 312 (M312), which is a cycling event of 312km around Mallorca within 14 hours. In April 2018 (only 6 months after getting my road bike), I completed the M312 within 13 hours 40 mins.
That same year I went on to do the La Indurain sportive in July, Contador Sprotive in September and the WCT Benidorm Sportive in October.
Not stopping there, I entered the M312 again in 2019 and completed it within 12 hours 10 mins! I also did a local sportive in Moratalla, the Tour del Juguete, along with La Indurain and Contador sportives again.
This year (2020) I have decided to do something different and we (me and my partner Steve) are taking a cycling holiday in Northern Portugal, which is 6 days with a total of 750km and 16,000m elevation. It will be tough but I'm hoping enjoyable!
We have just registered for the La Indurain and Contador sportives too.
I have been riding with the Amigos group for 2 years and really enjoy the company, banter and routes that we do.
It's not a cycling club or a racing club but just a group of people, just like me, that like cycling and enjoy the company and riding in the sunshine around the beatuiful Costa Blanca!
